This is the story of Jack. Jack was an ordinary boy, he lived an ordinary life and ordinary things happened to him. But one day Jack discovered something that wasn’t so ordinary. Jack could read minds. Not read like studying a book, more like a speed reading of text. Anyway, Jack wasn’t ordinary anymore. He was extraordinary.
Time passed and the boy Jack became the man Jack. His extraordinary powers had given him some advantage in life; the greatest manifestation of his gift was the ability to help people in life - he could see clearly in other people what they could only see through a fog of emotion or pain - but he wasn’t superman and nobody depended on him for their lives.
In fact the biggest impact Jack’s gift had on the world was in Jack himself. Jack became to believe that this gift set him apart from other people, made him special - and he should be treated so. As a result Jack lost what few friends he had and became a recluse, living in a big old house his parents had left him.
As time passed Jack’s power faded and faded, but Jack became more and more convinced of his greatness and more and more isolated from others. In the end he died, alone and friendless with only his dog to mourn his passing.
