On the rioting

Wouldn’t it be nice if in this pretty wee country of ours we could just post nonsense about our days, of the things we find in the hills, of nights spent under the stars, and the occassional moment of sublimity and never have to feel like maybe you’re glossing over something.

There was an ugly rant here, it wasn’t helpful. I know I’ve said it before but posting about anything political is something I should avoid — I have not the patience for people.

I had cause earlier, and rare cause it was, to praise one of my customers.

She looked at me suspiciously, her dim brain computed, she smiled (another rarity) and said “What do you mean?” I said, “You did well yesterday, you acted responsibly in a difficult situation.”
She glowed and replied, “Aye but you should have seen me later on. I was out rioting. And I’ll be out again tonight.”

What could I say. Some asinine advice along the lines of - ooh you shouldn’t. It’s so dangerous, You could get arrested or hurt. etc etc.”

It’s not in the job description to teach them civic responsibility or , for that matter, a historical perspective.

You know, apart from the usual revulsion I feel for (I can’t think of a better word, so I call them) those people, I think I find it worse now I am no longer there.

As I just see Newsnight, (and read the NI news sites), I can imagine what the Engerlish think of us. And none of it is good.

Sure, it is only a minority, but who wants their homeland portrayed like that? By knuckle-dragging throwback with not an ounce of sense. Police being shot at, bombs thrown, families intimidated. How far from being a Christian order is the OO? Don’t they read the Book they suppose to belief in? I liked it out in the country, never wanting to live in the Big City. What is the point of those people? Society sure as hell didn’t make them do it. Parents are to blame. Their odious offspring are to blame. They are not disadvantaged. They are not oppressed. They have it all, and refuse to take it and make the best of it.

Where is the rule of law? There people are known, lock them up and lock them up for a long time. I don’t care if they think they speak for me. They don’t, and never did.

Dirty, lowlife, misguided scum. I hate them.

This made me laugh:

Speaking at a news conference on Wednesday, Mr Saulters blamed the police, the Parades Commission and the government for causing the trouble

Does exactly what it says on the (comic book) tin. Loved it.
  • Little Miss Sunshinerating
Very funny, disturbing (the beauty pageant) and completely messed up -- but in a good way.
  • Laputa: Castle in the Skyrating
Story great, characterization a little on the weak side -- though the big robots are cool.
  • Porco Rossorating
    Stylish, funny, exciting.
  • Grave of the Firefliesrating
Very sad, which was a little unexpected since I didn't know much about it before watching it. Can be a little too slow in places though, otherwise it's very good.
  • Nausicaä of the Valley of the Windrating
The story can get a little dense at times what with the various factions, but still really enjoyable, inventive and engaging.
  • X-Men: The Last Standrating
Opportunity, talent, money - all blown. Over 3 films X-Men has hinted of something great that could have been, this last one says "No, sorry - not going to happen". Bah.
