So today was @media 2006 in sunny London with the England fans. I really enjoyed it, the only real downside was the poor WiFi in the QEII conference centre.
Very good talk from Eric Meyer about the past present and future of CSS. As CSS is really the thing I enjoy most of what I do and Eric Meyer’s work has been my main guiding light down the years it was great to hear him talk on the subject. Had I brought my (worn out) CSS book I’d have asked him to sign it too.
Cameron Moll kicks ass, this talk didn’t really. It was interesting enough though.
Now this talk did rock. Chris Wilson actually managed to get me quite excited about IE7 which takes some doing as most new browser releases just fill me with fear and loathing. I’ve been ignoring most of the chatter around IE7 (because, well, maybe if I ignored it it would go away?) but it’s high time I started getting up to speed. And some of the stuff Chris talked about looks really cool, the CSS support looks good, PNGs, and that OpenSearch stuff looks really cool… so I have some reading to do!
ZzzzzZZZzzzz. In the defence of the panel I have read the draft WCAG 2.0 stuff (well, I got past the first few pages then decided to opt for the Understanding WCAG 2.0 document) and no one on earth could make this an interesting subject. No-one.
The one thing I was glad to hear was something JAB and I have been saying for ages, there’s a difference between ‘conformance’ and ‘accessibility’. Just because a site passes some tests doesn’t mean it’s accessible, just because it fails some tests doesn’t mean it’s inaccessible.
Still, ZzzzZZzzz.
All hail Mr. Veen, the best of the day. You can get the PDF of Jeffrey Veen’s @media 2006 talk here.

More!? OK then, but I can't help feeling that this will be a disappointment to you.
I work as a web designer in Belfast, and I live by the sea in a shoe. You can see me here, doing my livejournal pose as idoru called it. If you need to you can email me at carisenda -at- gmail -dot- com.
A good run-down summary of the day, I was going to do one too, but now cannot be bothered.
Ive posted some more photos of the event up - and after much messing around with an audio tool - you can download Jeffrey Veen’s ‘most interesting’ talk on Designing the Next Generation of Web Apps
